Paring Down the Life
The first order of business is decluttering and selling/giving away/getting rid of uneccesary items. For example: My brain knows that there's no way we can take all of the furniture we have in our home to our new or retirement home. The antiques that we have would never last in a more tropical climate. My heart rebels at the thought of my family herlooms remaining behind. However, our daughter and my sister will love the fact that we'll be down-sizing and they will get these beautiful pieces of furniture. As much as we would love to bring it all with us, it would accelerate the deterioration of the wood. That would be sad - - - so as much as my heart doesen't want to consider letting go, my brain is going to win out on this one. The furniture should stay in the USA.
Other items - such as winter clothing - will be WAY easy to get rid of. Later. When I no longer need them. And honestly, we don't know when or how long it will be. We don't really have a time line. 5 years? 12 years? We really don't know. But, if we don't start planning and saving, we'll never get a good time line down. Of course, if we suddenly become independently wealthy - well, that solves all the questions, doesn't it?! LOL
This winter, I'm going to go through our closets and storage rooms and take out items we never use and husband and I will decide on what to keep for now, what to keep for later, and what to offer to friends and family. This is going to be fun. :)
So if anyone reading this has any cool ideas - feel free to share! I'm all open!! And thanks for stopping by!
